How to Fix Corrupted or Unreadable External Hard Disk or USB drive.

   If you see an error message as below saying your external hard disk or USB drive corrupted or unreadable. You can fix the problem easily using command prompt. You will not need to format drive erasing your valuable documents.

    In command prompt commands chkdsk stands for “check disk”. It is used to check a specified disk and repair or recover data on the drive if necessary. The chkdsk command is used to scan the file system on a disk and check the volume for logical and physical errors but it does not correct errors. If we used chkdsk command with a parameter, chkdsk fix any errors on the volume.

    Follow these simple steps to fix errors on your drive other than C drive.
  • Type in cmd (or command prompt) in the search box in your taskbar.
  • Right-click command prompt and select run as administrator.
  • Type chkdsk E: /f (change drive letter number as shown on computer. In this example it is mentioned as E:) and hit Enter.
